TARGAN’s WingScan™ Surpasses One Billion Birds Processed Milestone

Global adoption grows for TARGAN’s automated chick sexing technology
Raleigh, North Carolina, United States, June 23, 2025 — TARGAN, a leading animal AgTech company, today announced a major milestone – its flagship technology WingScan™ has now processed more than one billion birds globally. The company has over 40 systems placed in hatcheries worldwide, with its early growth driven by commercial adoption in the United States and Canada.
As the first fully automated chick sexing system developed specifically for broiler hatcheries, WingScan uses advanced imaging and machine learning to automate the process. Across a wide variety of operational environments, the technology has proven to reliably separate male and female birds with an accuracy of 98%, delivering consistent performance while directly addressing industry-wide labor shortages and helping to improve bird welfare.
Ramin Karimpour, CEO and Founder of TARGAN said: “This milestone underscores the impact WingScan is having on poultry production globally. We set out to bring precision, efficiency, and scalability to an industry racing to keep up with the pace of demand for protein. Surpassing one billion birds processed is a powerful validation of that vision. WingScan is helping producers meet today’s challenges while building a stronger, more resilient future.”
The first half of 2025 has seen WingScan expand across Europe, with customers in place in Spain, Poland and Italy. As a result, TARGAN is investing in its European infrastructure to support continued deployment and long-term customer success - providing not only advanced technology, but also the expertise to guide producers through every stage of the transition.
Commenting on the move, Vincent Fevrier, VP of Sales and Marketing for EMEA, Asia, and Oceania said: “This achievement reflects the strong collaboration between our teams and our customers. Crossing the one billion bird mark is more than just a figure, it represents the trust our partners have placed in us to modernize their operations. As the industry evolves, producers are looking for scalable, future-ready solutions, and WingScan is delivering just that.”
WingScan is now in regular operation at hatcheries processing between 300,000 and over 2 million chicks per week. The system supports a wide range of production scales while maintaining high throughput and aligning with animal welfare standards. Its modular and scalable design allows hatcheries to expand as needed, offering a future-proof solution for meeting growing production demands.
WingScan’s footprint across the Americas continues to grow. Scott Russell, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Americas said “We’re seeing continued traction in the U.S. and Canada, where WingScan has steadily positioned itself as the leading solution for hatcheries focused on efficiency, consistency, and long-term value.” With that foundation in place, he said “we’ve now launched WingScan in key markets across Latin America and Brazil, where producers are actively investing in automation to enhance animal welfare, improve production performance, and address the increasing scarcity of qualified labor.”
Looking ahead, TARGAN is poised to build on this progress with expansion plans in Oceania and Asia, where interest in WingScan has spread strongly. The company remains focused on delivering data-driven, automated technologies that enable earlier, smarter decision-making from hatchery to processing.
